Biography

The Japanese soprano Akiho Tsujii has been a member of the ensemble at Theater Chemnitz since the 2023/24 season. There she has expanded her repertoire with key roles of her Fach, including Violetta (La Traviata), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Mimì (La Bohème), Antonia (Les contes d’Hoffmann), Nedda (Pagliacci), Gilda (Rigoletto), Micaëla (Carmen), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), as well as Lia San (Viktoria und ihr Husar) and Hilde (Der Tenor der Herzogin). She has also appeared in concert works such as Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 and Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 (Mater Gloriosa).

Numerous guest engagements have taken her, among others, to the DomStufen-Festspiele Erfurt in 2025 as Mimì (La Bohème). In 2024, she appeared as Amor (Orphée et Eurydice) and Olympia (Les contes d’Hoffmann) at Staatstheater Darmstadt, as Servilia (La clemenza di Tito) at the Gluck Festival at the Margravial Opera House in Bayreuth, and as Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier) at Staatstheater Cottbus. She also returned to the Mainfranken Theater Würzburg for the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor.

She made her debut in 2020 at the New National Theatre Tokyo as Musetta (La Bohème), under the musical direction of Paolo Carignani, alongside Nino Machaidze.

Further engagements have taken her, among others, to Oper Leipzig, Theater Erfurt, Theater Dortmund, Semperoper Dresden (coproduction; performances at Staatsschauspiel Dresden), Staatsoperette Dresden, and Deutsche Oper Berlin (cover Gilda in Rigoletto).

She is also active as a concert singer. With Gabriel Feltz, she has performed Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 (2017) as well as Mozart’s Great Mass in C minor at the Konzerthaus Dortmund (2019) and in Belgrade (2022). At the Frauenkirche Dresden, she has performed Mendelssohn’s Elijah and Beethoven’s Mass under the direction of Matthias Grünert. Further concert appearances have taken her to Poland, the United Kingdom, Austria, and Japan.

From 2017 to 2023, she was a member of the ensemble at the Mainfranken Theater Würzburg, where she built a broad repertoire including Lucia (Lucia di Lammermoor), Zerbinetta (Ariadne auf Naxos), Olympia (Les contes d’Hoffmann), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Giulietta (I Capuleti e i Montecchi), Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi), Gilda (Rigoletto), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Musetta (La Bohème), Woglinde (Der Ring des Nibelungen), Madame Mao (Nixon in China), and Armida (Rinaldo). In 2022, she was awarded the Theater Prize of the Theater and Orchestra Support Association.

Prior to that, from 2014 to 2017, she was a member of the ensemble at Theater Gera-Altenburg, where she established her core repertoire, including Norina (Don Pasquale), Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier), Ännchen (Der Freischütz), Gilda (Rigoletto), Karolka (Jenůfa), and Musetta (La Bohème). There, she received the Theater-Oskar as “Most Popular Artist” in both 2016 and 2017.

She has received multiple awards at international singing competitions, including First Prize at the International Albert Lortzing Competition in Leipzig, Second Prize at the Osaka International Music Competition, and Second Prize at the Japan Music Competition. She was also a finalist at the International Mozart Competition Salzburg and the Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition, where she received several engagement awards.

She received her initial musical training in Japan. She studied voice at the Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music with Prof. Kumiko Oshita, graduating with a master’s degree. She was subsequently awarded a DAAD scholarship, enabling her to pursue two years of advanced studies in Germany at the University of Music and Theatre “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” Leipzig with Prof. Dr. Jeanette Favaro-Reuter. She was also a member of the Thuringian Opera Studio.

同劇場では《椿姫》ヴィオレッタ、《ドン・ジョヴァンニ》ドンナ・アンナ、《ラ・ボエーム》ミミ、《ホフマン物語》アントニア、《道化師》ネッダ、《リゴレット》ジルダ、《カルメン》ミカエラ、《ヘンゼルとグレーテル》グレーテル、《ヴィクトリアと軽騎兵》リア・サン、《公爵夫人のテノール》ヒルデなどを務める。また、ベートーヴェン《交響曲第9番》、マーラー《交響曲第8番》〈栄光の母〉などのコンサートにも出演。

近年の客演では、2025年にエアフルト・ドムシュトゥーフェン音楽祭にて《ラ・ボエーム》ミミを務めた。2024年には、ダルムシュタット州立劇場《オルフェオとエウリディーチェ》アモール、《ホフマン物語》オリンピア、世界遺産・バイロイト辺境伯歌劇場で開催されたグルック音楽祭では《皇帝ティートの慈悲》セルヴィリア、コトブス州立劇場《ばらの騎士》ゾフィーで出演。さらにヴュルツブルクでは、《ランメルモールのルチア》タイトルロールで再登場した。

2020年1月、東京・新国立劇場に《ラ・ボエーム》ムゼッタ役で初出演。Paolo Carignaniの指揮のもと、Nino Machaidzeと共演。

これまでに、ライプツィヒ歌劇場、エアフルト歌劇場、ドルトムント歌劇場、ザクセン州立歌劇場（ドレスデン、共同制作公演としてドレスデン州立劇場で上演）、ザクセン州立喜歌劇場、ベルリン・ドイツ・オペラ（《リゴレット》ジルダ役カヴァー）などに客演。

コンサート分野でも活動しており、Gabriel Feltz指揮のもと、ベートーヴェン《交響曲第9番》（2017年）、モーツァルト《ミサ曲ハ短調》（2019年ドルトムント、2022年ベオグラード）に出演。ドレスデン聖母教会では、Matthias Grünert指揮のもとメンデルスゾーン《エリアス》、ベートーヴェンのミサ曲などを歌うほか、ポーランド、イギリス、オーストリア、日本など各地でコンサートに出演。

2017年~2023年、ヴュルツブルク・マインフランケン劇場専属歌手として、《ランメルモールのルチア》ルチア、《皇帝ティートの慈悲》セルヴィリア、《屋根の上のヴァイオリン弾き》ホーデル、《ホフマン物語》オリンピア、《魔笛》パミーナ、《カプレーティ家とモンテッキ家》ジュリエッタ、《ジャンニ・スキッキ》ラウレッタ、《リゴレット》ジルダ、《ナクソス島のアリアドネ》ツェルビネッタ、《ヘンゼルとグレーテル》グレーテル、《ニクソン・イン・チャイナ》マダム・マオ、《ラインの黄金》《神々の黄昏》ヴォークリンデ、《リナルド》アルミーダ、《コジ・ファン・トゥッテ》デスピーナなどに出演。2022年には劇場・オーケストラ支援協会より劇場賞を受賞。

2014年~2017年、ゲラ・アルテンブルク劇場専属歌手として、《ばらの騎士》ゾフィー、《ラ・ボエーム》ムゼッタ、《リゴレット》ジルダ、《魔弾の射手》エンヒェン、《ドン・パスクアーレ》ノリーナなどを務め、聴衆投票により選ばれる「テアーター・オスカー（聴衆の投票による賞）」を2年連続受賞。

国際声楽コンクールでも入賞しており、アルベルト・ロルツィング国際コンクール（ライプツィヒ）第1位、大阪国際音楽コンクール第2位、日本音楽コンクール第2位を受賞。さらに、ザルツブルク・モーツァルト国際コンクール、ハンス・ガボール・ベルヴェデーレ国際声楽コンクールではファイナリストとなり、後者では複数の契約賞を受賞している。

大阪府立夕陽丘高等学校音楽科を卒業後、愛知県立芸術大学大学院音楽研究科博士前期課程を首席で修了。DAAD給費留学生として渡独し、ライプツィヒ音楽演劇大学にてオペラ科修士課程を取得。シーズン2013/2014、テューリンゲン・オペラ研修所に所属。

近年は後進の指導にも取り組んでおり、2022年には中嶋彰子氏主宰のオペラアカデミー「農楽塾」にて講師を務めた。

声楽を河邉敦子、故・大下久深子、Prof. Dr. Jeanette Favaro-Reuterの各氏に師事。
